Quarterback Joe Ganz

On the turnover at the start of the game...

“That was a tough start to the game and it was a bad throw by me.  We had them in the coverage we wanted them in and their linebacker ran our tight end into Nate Swift and knocked him off balance which really through everything out of whack. It was a bad throw and it was a mistake but I didn’t want it to hurt us down the road so I pretty much forgot about it. I was more upset I didn’t make the tackle.”

On K-State’s coverage...

“They played a lot of man to man defense the whole game. It was effective the first couple quarters but then they started zone blitzing a little bit more so we came out with different blocking techniques and other different things that we needed to do. Coming into the fourth quarter they went back into the man to man coverage and had everyone accounted for except the quarterback. We knew coming into the came if they were going to play man to man we were going to have some big break out runs on zone reads and our perimeter blocking deserves a lot of the credit.”

On satisfaction on out-playing Freeman...

“As a competitor you do get some satisfaction. Josh (Freeman) is a good kid and we talked after the game. You never wish anything bad on anyone but as a competitor you want to out-play every quarterback you play against. It is not really all about the numbers but more about winning and losing.”

Linebacker Tyler Wortman

On the linebacker play today...

“I think we really stepped up with two of our main guys out. We had some young guys who were able to fill in and do a nice job. Colton Koehler did really well in our base package and being able to be interchangeable really has changed us.”

On the key to containing Freeman...

“I think the key to containing Freeman is our defensive line. The same thing happened last week with our defensive line where we were able to get a good pass rush on the quarterback which really helps us out.”

On Matt May converting form safety to linebacker...

“He actually did very well, on the first play he almost had a fumble on a blitz. For a young guy to be able to step in and learn the linebacker position in one week and be able to play like he did is very special.”

Wide Receiver Nate Swift

On the turnover to start the game...

“I think we have a team that can make a mistake and put it behind us and go to the next drive with a fresh mentality and be able to score like we did. I think it is pretty easy to put something like that behind you because it was a tipped ball and that is going to happen every once and awhile. I think we did a nice job of coming back and scoring.”
