Construction on Phases 4, 5 and 6 of the Vanier Football Complex Project began Monday, November 21, and is scheduled to be complete prior to the opening game of the 2006 season. Cost of the final additions is projected at $4.3 million. The project will provide an extreme makeover to the facility built in 1969 at the north end of Bill Snyder Family Stadium that houses the football program’s offices, locker, weight, equipment and training facilities and public seating.

Fast Facts:

Construction on phases 4-6 began Monday, Nov. 21

Scheduled to be completed prior to 2006 season

Adds nearly 10,000 sq. feet of new space

Includes new, state of the art hydrotherapy area

Total cost projected at $4.3 milllion

Complex originally built in 1969

Houses football offices, lockerroom, weight room, equipment, training facilities

"This project would have never come to fruition without the help of so many great friends and supporters of Kansas State," Weiser said, noting that more than 70 other individuals and companies have joined Via Christi Health System, Mercy Regional Health Center and Preferred Health System with contributions to the renovation. "Clearly, upgrading the Vanier Complex to meet the needs of a football program in Big 12 Conference has been one of our pressing facility needs. Come next season, the look and functionality of that building will be greatly enhanced."

The upcoming improvements will provide nearly 10,000 square feet of new space on two levels to the existing building. Initial construction will involve demolition of the south face of the building to accommodate an approximate 35-foot extension of the facility.

On the ground level at the western end of the building will be the hydrotherapy center and an expansion of the K-State team locker room and players’ lounge. On the east end, an elevator and new officials’ locker room will be built. The existing officials’ locker room will be renovated, allowing for expansion of the current coaches’ locker room and lounge into that space.

Expansion on the upper level, representing about 4,200 square feet, will result on the west side in a new office and reception area for the head coach, a work room and conference room. An extension to the balcony outside the current Big Eight Room will provide an expansive view of Bill Snyder Family Stadium, while on the east end two new coaches’ offices and storage will be built above the officials’ locker room.

The final piece of the project will be a reconfiguration of the north end zone seating area, resulting in tiered bench seating with a capacity for about 1,900 patrons and a sweeping runway leading from the Wildcats’ locker room to the playing field.

Phases 1, 2 and 3 were completed in 2004 at a cost of approximately $1.5 million and entailed renovation and expansion of the strength and conditioning, sports medicine and equipment areas, in addition to upgrading the building’s utilities and physical plant equipment.

Gossen Livingston Associates, Inc., of Wichita is the project architect with Coonrod and Associates Construction Co., of Wichita serving as the general contractor.
