Busy Friday for K-State Tennis

NORMAN, Okla. - Kansas State women's tennis had a busy Friday, as a pair of Wildcats competed at the Wilson/ITA Central Regional at the Headington Family Tennis Center, while the rest of the K-State roster competed at the Kansas Invitational.

Junior Antea Huljev came up short in her bid to reach the quarterfinals of the main draw of the Wilson/ITA Central Regional. Huljev fell to Marie-Pier Huet of Oklahoma in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0. The product of Velenje, Slovenia finishes her fall campaign with a 7-6 mark.

Also on Friday at the Wilson/ITA Central Regional, sophomore Nina Sertic advanced to the consolation round of 16 before falling. Sertic opened the consolation round with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Jennifer Holmberg of Nebraska. In the round of 16, Sertic fell to Claudine Paulson of Arkansas, 6-2, 6-2.

At the Kansas Invitational in Lawrence, the Wildcats registered three doubles victories and three singles wins. The doubles pair of senior Natasha Vieira and freshman Carmen Borau Ramos tallied their first win together in four opportunities this fall. The pair defeated Jenna Langhorst and Reka Keleman of Iowa State, 8-5.

The other two pairs for K-State, sophomore Petra Chuda/freshman Karla Bonacic and freshmen Maryna Chumak and Ana Gomez Aleman, played for the first time together this fall. The duo of Chuda and Bonacic defeated Laura Bouet and Eva Dalvai of UMKC, 8-6. Chumak and Gomez Aleman set down Lauren White and Hannah Kelley of Abilene Christian, 8-5.

In singles action, Chuda and Chumak each earned their third victory this fall. In Bracket 1, Chumak defeated Anya Villanueva of New Mexico, 6-2, 6-4. In Bracket 2, Chuda won in straight sets over Lauren White of Abilene Christian, 6-2, 6-1.

K-State will continue action on Saturday at the Kansas Invitational with a doubles match in the morning, followed by a singles match.
