IRVING, Texas - Kansas State senior forward Ashley Sweat earned her first career Big 12 Player of the Week citation on Monday afternoon. This is the 21st time a Wildcat has earned the weekly Big 12 honor and she becomes the eighth player in school history to earn the honor. Also earning Big 12 Player of the Week honors was Brittany Spears of Colorado.

Sweat, a 6-2 forward from McPherson, Kan., helped push K-State to its first win of the season with her first career double-double and a Big 12 season-high for points scored. For the week, Sweat averaged 24.5 points and 10.0 rebounds. She was 14-of-29 from the field and 19-of-24 from the free throw line.

The Naismith Trophy candidate registered a career-high 33 points and tied her career-high with 11 rebounds in K-State's 70-63 win over Washington State. Sweat, a 2009-10 preseason All-Big 12 honorable mention selection, was 12-of-19 from the field and 8-of-10 from the foul line against the Cougars. The scoring effort was the highest by a Wildcat since Kendra Wecker scored a school record 41 on Nov. 26, 2004. It tied for the 11th-highest scoring output in a single game in school history.

Against Arkansas State, Sweat tallied 16 points, including 11-of-14 from the foul line, and nine rebounds in 40 minutes of action. For the season, Sweat ranks third in the Big 12 in scoring at 21.7 points per game and sixth in the league in rebounding at 9.3. In her career, Sweat ranks ninth in school history for points scored with 1,356 and is 28th for career rebounds with 469.
