MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State women's tennis coach Steve Bietau announced the signing of Petra Niedermayerova to a National Letter of Intent for the 2010-11 season.

"Petra is definitely one of the most mature high school tennis players who I have ever seen," stated Bietau of Niedermayerova. "One of her best qualities is her desire to compete. There are high school players who say that they want to win, but when you specifically ask them what they are going to do to win, they have no idea. Petra is different. She has a lot of matches under her belt and she proved that she knows how to win. Getting such competitive players is always a great contribution to our team. On top of being a great athlete, Petra is a great person, and an excellent student.

"I am very excited about Petra's future here at K-State and helping her with the continued development of her game."

Niedermayerova advanced to the quarterfinals of the Czech Outdoor Singles Championships in 2007 and 2008. She reached the quarterfinals of the Czech Indoor Championships in Prague in 2008 and 2009.

The product of Brno, Czech Republic won the TE Junior Tour ZLTC Cup in her hometown in April of 2006 and is also a five-time winner of the Southern Noravian Championship in singles action and a three-time winner in doubles play.

Niedermayerova has an extensive record in Czech junior tennis, as she has a singles record of 162-52 and a doubles mark of 92-36. During her junior career, Niedermayerova has achieved a national ranking of 29th.

Kansas State will open the spring schedule on Jan. 31 in Des Moines, Iowa against Drake and Northern Iowa.
