The ACTION

Rolando Blackman did it. Bob Bastin did it. Clifton Etheridge, Eric Gallon, Isaac Jackson, and Tim Stone did it. Why Don't You? Gain one of the most important victories of your life: a college degree.

Second Wind can help you complete your K-State education. The program challenges you to achieve your personal and professional goals by earning your K-State bachelor's degree

The PLAYING FIELD: Manhattan or Your Home Turf

Second WindReturn to Wildcat Country

You can return to the K-State campus to complete your bachelor’s degree. Athletic academic counselors and the academic advisors from your college or major can assist you in planning your return, guide you through the preparation for completing degree requirements, and outline the exact credit hours or semesters you will need. K-State coaches and counselors will provide you with information for re-admission, financial aid, local housing, and possible employment. Before you arrive on campus, you can have a detailed plan for your class schedule, graduation time line, and necessary arrangements for student living.

Stay on Your Home Field

If you travel regularly or need to remain in your home community, you can complete your K-State degree through distance education. Through K-State's Bachelor's Degree Completion Program, you can finish your degree requirements by taking distance and online courses from K-State, by taking local or distance courses from other accredited institutions, or by earning credit from quiz outs. You will work directly with a K-State academic advisor.

Degree Programs include:

  • Interdiciplinary Social Science
  • General Business
  • Animal Science and Industry
  • Food Service and Industry

Other degree programs are also available.

The VICTORY: A College Degree

Rolando BlackmanRolando Blackman, standout K-State basketball player from 1977 to 1981, completed his degree through Second Wind in 1996. After leaving K-State just 20 hours shy of a bachelor’s degree, four-time NBA all-star Blackman played professional basketball with the Dallas Mavericks and the New York Knicks. Today Rolando is an assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks. “I want to finish anything that I start. The Second Wind Program offered me the opportunity to fit studying around my personal life,” Blackman said.

Tim Stone, 1985 football team captain and left tackle, completed his degree through Second Wind in 1989 after playing professional football for three and a half years. “The service and advice I received from K-State was great. It is impressive to see that K-State is committed to helping athletes obtain the goal of a college degree,” he said.

Through Second Wind, Isaac Jackson, K-State’s all-time leading rusher in football, completed his bachelor’s degree in social science in 1990. “When I start something I like to finish it,” Jackson said. “I wanted to pursue my bachelor’s degree because I was so close to finishing. I felt like I would be a lot more marketable.”

Former student-athlete Eric Gallon is grateful for the opportunity Second Wind gave his to complete his degree. “Because of my degree, I have not been limited in my field, and I have gained an advanced position in a juvenile correction facility with a substantial increase in pay,” Gallon said. “I’m now in a position to nurture young people to be better individuals and to increase their academic level and further their education. I am always pleased to talk about my alma mater and its commitment to excellence. As a former student-athlete under Bill Snyder, I can say that striving to get better each day has become a way of life. Winning will come as a result of improving.”
