Mission of Student Services for Intercollegiate Athletics

K-State The goal and responsibility of the Program is the implementation of services which assist, direct, support and promote student development, academic achievement, academic athletic eligibility, and progress toward graduation.

The design of these services and programs will facilitate the student’s academic commitment, performance, and responsibility. The services and programs are to be congruent with the institution’s educational mission and its academic policies and procedures.

Life Skills Program

Kansas State University and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is committed to our student-athletes’ overall experience, including the completion of their degree, career planning, campus and community service and personal development. The program values the individual contributions and the diversity of people associated with Kansas State University. The program has a strong commitment to providing student-athletes with an inclusive environment. The program strives for student-athlete development and achievement at Kansas State and preparation for the future.

Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)

SAAC represents and articulates the broad and diverse interests, opinions and concerns of student-athletes to athletic department administrators.

Through SAAC, athletic department administrators discuss with student-athletes issues regarding the management, operation and rules that govern the Athletic Department and its sport teams.

Second Wind Program

The "Second Wind" degree completion program was developed at Kansas State by Bill Snyder, Head Football Coach, and is now implemented by all Head Coaches, Athletic Department administration, and academic counselors.

Under the Second Wind program, former student-athletes are contacted and encouraged to complete their degree by either returning to Kansas State or attending a college or university close to their residence.

If you travel regularly or need to remain in your home community, you can complete your K-State degree through distance education. Through K-State's Bachelor's Degree Completion Program, you can finish your degree requirements by taking distance and online courses from K-State, by taking local or distance courses from other accredited institutions, or by earning credit from quiz outs. You will work directly with a K-State academic advisor.

K-State Student Services for Intercollegiate Athletics Staff

The Student Services Program is staffed by six full-time academic counselors, including a Life Skills Director, Coordinator for Specialized Learning Services, and approximately sixty academic tutors.

Each team is assigned an academic counselor who is responsible for contact with designated student athletes, supervision of tutorial services, administration of the team's study sessions and monitoring the student's academic progress.

Each counselor works with their students in utilizing program resources, University services, and the academic advising required by their School, College or major department.
