Head Coach Frank Martin

Opening statement...
“I don’t want to sound silly in what I am saying, but it is the fifth game of a 16-game schedule. It’s another win. It’s another feather in our hat. It’s a credit to those kids that put on that purple every day in practice, their belief in what we are doing and their belief in continuing to represent their school.”

On what ending the streak means...

“That’s a question that Brad Underwood needs to answer, because he was a player here when that streak started in 1984. I’ve been here for two years and obviously that is something very important to the incredible people of Kansas State. For us to be able to provide relief from that streak to our people of Kansas State, I’m proud of our guys for doing that. For me, I was just happy to be able to beat these guys. Last year we lost to them three times, and not being able to beat them kept us out of the NCAA Tournament. I’m happy that we got number five out of the way, and now we have to start preparing for number six.”

On Kansas...

“They’re so good that every minute of the game is important against them. I just told Dave Hoskins in the locker room that that is the kind of game that, as a coach, you age 40 years in 40 minutes, and when you win, you get those 40 years back. It’s hard to beat the champion. It’s not easy to beat a champion, and those guys are champions in that locker room over there that represents KU.”

On K-State’s guard play...

“To be totally honest with you, I’m tired of people calling our guards raggedy. It ticks me off to hear that our guards are inferior to other peoples’ guards. Our guards stepped up and played like grown men today. We didn’t turn it over, and we made plays that win.”

On Jacob Pullen...

“He’s learning. I spent the whole game telling him that it’s a big-boy game out there today. When you go out and beat a champion, you can’t take a round off. You have to fight every round that you are in there to beat a champion. Dominique (Sutton) is still learning that process. He had moments in the game where he showed his incredible athleticism and the abilities that he has to continue to help our team. Then he had other moments where he played at the high school speed. And when he played at that speed against a team like Kansas, you have no chance.”
