Ted Sims Game Highlight

A steady middle linebacker who possesses good instincts and has a nose for the ball... Had a break-out season in 2003, but injuries limited playing time in 2004.

 

2004 (Junior): Appeared in seven games... Made lone start in season finale vs. Iowa State (11/20)... Credited with 17 total tackles, including seven solo stops, and an interception... Had 3.5 tackles for loss with a six-yard sack... Collected a season-high five  tackles, including a sack, vs. Iowa State... In on four stops at Colorado (11/13), with two behind the line of scrimmage, and returned an interception 37 yards for a touchdown... Credited with three stops vs. Texas Tech (10/30)... Was a preseason Butkus Award candidate as well as a second team preseason All-Big 12 choice by Athlon.

 

2003 (Sophomore): Saw action in all 15 games at middle linebacker... Started each of the final nine games of the season... Ranked fifth on the team in total tackles with 79, including six for losses of 30 yards... Had four sacks on the year, one forced fumble and one blocked kick... Finished with seven total tackles in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl vs. Ohio State (1/2)... Had an outstanding Big 12 Championship game vs. Oklahoma (12/6), collecting seven total tackles and returning his first career interception 27 yards for a touchdown during the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach... Recorded four tackles against Missouri (11/22)... Posted seven tackles, including five solo stops, against Nebraska (11/15)... Totaled seven tackles against both Baylor (11/1) and Kansas (10/25), including a forced fumble vs. the Jayhawks... Credited with three tackles against Colorado (10/18)... Collected eight tackles, including four solo, against Oklahoma State (10/11) in his first start... Hit career highs in total (15) and solo (7) tackles at Texas (10/4)... Also posted a team-high two sacks for 10 yards against the Longhorns... Turned in eight tackles, including four solo, against Massachusetts (9/13)... Collected his first career sacks with two against UMass.

 

2002 (Redshirt Freshman): Saw action in three games as a backup linebacker for Wildcats, playing in the first three games of the season... Credited with a solo tackle against Louisiana-Monroe (9/7).

 

2001 (Freshman): Redshirt season.

 

Newton HS: Member of all-classes first team Top 33 by Wichita Eagle and Topeka Capital-Journal... First team Class 5A all-state and first team All-Ark Valley Conference... Team defensive MVP as senior... Led team and state in unassisted tackles... Three-year starter who lettered all four seasons... Was first freshman to earn a letter at Newton...  High school coach was Brent Glenn... Also earned three letters in track and field... Won state Class 5A shot put as senior with 53-7.75 mark.

 

Personal: Born Nov. 27, 1982, in Newton, Kan... Parents are Jack and Pam Sims... A marketing major.
