A speed-merchant who plays very physical for his size... Saw playing time at both defensive back and on special teams as a true freshman... Should battle for a starting spot at one of the corners.

2007: Appeared in four total games, making four tackles on the season... Made his first career stop against Missouri State before tallying a career-best three tackles at Fresno State.

HIGH SCHOOL: A three-year letterwinner and two-year starter at Marshall High School... Helped the Buffaloes to an 8-4 record, a District 23-5A co-championship and a berth in the area finals of the 5A state playoffs in 2006... Earned District 23-5A second team honors as a senior... Coached by Dennis Brantley... Also lettered three years in track & field, competing in the 4x100, 4x400 and 200 meters.

PERSONAL: Kendrick Matthews was born Sept. 19, 1988, in Houston, Texas... Guardians are William and Norma Smith... Is related to Jafus White, a 1980 draft pick of the Green Bay Packers, and former Texas wide receiver Billy Pittman.
