MANHATTAN, Kan.Senior wide receiver Jordy Nelson, after having a record-setting start to the 2007 season, has been named a First Team Midseason All-American by both Sports Illustrated and Phil Steele, the two publications announced Thursday.

Nelson, a native of Riley, Kan., has opened his senior season in grand fashion as he has grabbed 52 receptions for 634 yards and three touchdowns. The former walk-on has now recorded at least one catch in 25 of his last 29 games and has 136 receptions for 1,850 yards and 12 touchdowns during his three-year stint at wide receiver to establish himself on three career top-10 receiving lists at K-State.

Nelson also leads the team and is 20th nationally in all-purpose yards with 161.6 yards per game. He has topped the 200-yard mark in that department twice, racking up 291 yards against Missouri State and 206 against Texas.

After collecting 36 receptions for 462 yards in his last three games, Nelson has leaped to second in the nation in receptions per game (10.4 per game) and fourth in yards (126.8).

Nelson, who has collected 10 or more catches for 100-plus yards in each of his last three games, became the first player in school history to do so and just the eighth player in school history to record a 10-catch, 100-yard game.

Kansas State returns to action Saturday night as it hosts Colorado in a nationally-televised Big 12 North matchup. Kickoff is set for 8:21 p.m. at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
