MANHATTAN, Kan. – Shelley Jarrard and Stephanie White will join the Kansas State women’s basketball coaching staff for the upcoming 2004-05 season, head coach Deb Patterson announced Friday.

"I am extremely excited about the additions of Shelley Jarrard and Stephanie White to our coaching staff,” Patterson said. “They will transition very well to the standard of excellence Kristin Becker and Sue Serafini brought to our program. Shelley and Stephanie bring a wealth of playing and coaching experiences and expertise to Kansas State and are both highly respected in and across the women's game.

“This is a staff that understands what it takes to be successful. Our staff is now comprised of three assistants who have competed in Final Fours, two who have won national championships and two who have received the game's highest individual honor, the Wade Trophy. Shelley Jarrard and Stephanie White are people of great character and integrity who personify Kansas State women's basketball. We are extremely privileged to add them to our staff."

Jarrard, who participated in four NCAA Sweet Sixteens as a player at Vanderbilt, comes to Manhattan after serving as an assistant coach at Utah. During her 10-year tenure with the Utes, the team advanced to the NCAA Tournament seven times and won seven conference championships. Jarrard served as position coach for the perimeter players, recruiting coordinator and shared responsibility for team and individual defensive strategies for the Utes, who annually rank among the top defensive teams in the nation.

A starter for Vanderbilt’s 1993 NCAA Final Four team, Jarrard was named an All-Southeastern Conference first team selection and All-America honorable mention. She was also the 1993 NCAA Tournament Midwest Regional MVP and a member of the SEC all-academic team. In 1991-92, Jarrard led the Commodores to the NCAA Elite Eight.

A 1993 Vandy graduate, Jarrard finished her playing career as the third-most prolific three-point field goal shooter in school history with 109 treys. A native of Gore, Okla., she was named the state of Oklahoma’s Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior at Webbers Falls High School.

White, who won the Wade Trophy Award and was a runner-up for National Player of the Year honors in 1999 as a student-athlete at Purdue, currently plays for the WNBA’s Indiana Fever. In 1999, the Boilermakers defeated Duke to win the program’s first NCAA Championship. White finished her storied four-year career as the second all-time leading scorer in school history with 2,182 career points and still holds seven school records. She ranks second all-time in assists (578) and ninth all-time in rebounds (667).

Originally from West Lebanon, Ind., White is a 1999 graduate of Purdue and was named a first team Kodak and Associated Press All-American in 1998-99. Due to surgery during the 2002 season, White served as a sideline reporter for Fever home games and has covered the Indiana Girls’ High School State Basketball Championships as a TV color analyst since 2000.

Jarrard will serves as the Wildcats’ primary recruiting coordinator, while White will take on scouting, preseason conditioning, team promotions, public relations and academic liaison duties for the program.
