3 Wildcats Advance to Finals at NCAAs

SACRAMENTO, Calif. Kansas State initiated competition at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with three athletes reaching the finals in the high jump at Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex.

 

Kaylene Wagner will make her second career appearance in the women’s high jump finals and the first as a member of the Wildcats. The senior from Goleta, Calif., cleared a height of 5-10.75, along with 10 other finalists, to reach Friday’s 5:15 p.m. (PDT). Three other athletes cleared 5-09.75 to also reach the final.

 

Wagner entered the weekend ranked third in the nation with a personal season-best of 6-02.25. She is also ranked 46th in the world by the IAAF.

 

Scott Sellers and Kyle Lancaster advanced to the finals in the men’s high jump with a height of 6-10.75, each clearing two bars on their first attempts. The finals of the men’s high jump will be contested on Friday at 3 p.m. (PDT). Sellers is ranked 32nd in the world by the IAAF, while Lancaster is a three-time NCAA Outdoor All-American in the event.

 

Adam Fretwell is 15th after the first day of the decathlon with 3,687 points. His top effort on the afternoon was the eighth-longest leap in the long jump with a distance of 22-10.50. After the first day of the Big 12 Championships, Fretwell had tallied 3,730 points on his way to a career-best of 7,197.

 

Kansas State will continue competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday afternoon. The Wildcats will have three athletes and the women’s 4x400-meter relay team in action on Thursday.
