A senior leader who can serve in multiple roles... A former catcher who mostly played outfield in 2007, but can also play first and DH... Coming off a productive year where he played in all but five games.

Junior (2007): Appeared in 53 games, starting 42, including 30 in right field... Hit .288 with four doubles, two triples, two home runs and drove in 28 runs... Recorded a six-game hitting streak in late May, going 11-for-25 (.440) during that span... Recorded 13 multi-hit games, including a team-high five hits in six at-bats against Missouri on April 6... Drove in four runs on his five hits against the Tigers, leading the Cats to a 12-0 win... Had another four RBI against Oklahoma... Also had three-hit games against St. John’s, North Dakota State on March 11, Texas on March 24 and Texas A&M on May 15... Tallied a .981 fielding percentage, recording only two errors in 106 total chances.

Redshirt Sophomore (2006): Appeared in 32 games, starting 16, mainly as the designated hitter... Hit .275 on the season with a homer and 14 RBI... Was a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen bases... Had eight multi-hit games on the season... Had a season-high six-game hitting streak from March 3 - March 11, in which he had four multi-hit games during that stretch... Collected a career-high three hits in four at-bats in a win over Eastern Illinois on March 4... Scored a career-best four runs on March 3 against Eastern Illinois... Finished the Eastern Illinois series 8-for-14 with three RBI and nine runs scored... Was 2-for-2 with two runs driven in at Texas Tech on April 14... Went 2-for-4 with a career-best four RBI in a win at South Dakota State on May 16... Was 4-for-6 with five RBI in the two-game set at South Dakota State.

Sophomore (2005): Redshirted during the 2005 season due to injury.

Freshman (2004): Appeared in seven games, three in Big 12 play, as a reserve catcher... Was 1-for-6 on the season with his first collegiate hit coming on May 22 against Kansas... Recorded 11 putouts on the season. 

Manhattan HS: A two-year letterwinner at Manhattan High School... Two-year starter for head coach Don Hess... First Team All-I-70 Designated Hitter during junior season and first team catcher during senior season... Also lettered four years in wrestling where he won the individual state title his senior season.

Personal: Derek James Bunker was born March 23, 1985, in Manhattan, Kan... He is the son of Russell Bunker and Shelley Schirer... Has one brother, Aaron... Majoring in management... Uncles Scott and Craig Bunker are both professional golfers.
