MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State opened its exhibition slate on Tuesday night in Bramlage Coliseum with an 81-68 decision over Fort Hays State. Senior Ashley Sweat led all scorers with 20 points.

The Wildcats held a 42-26 edge at the half by shooting 46.4 percent from the field in the stanza. K-State was able to push the lead to 21 early in the second half, as Sweat converted a three-point play to make the score 47-26.

Fort Hays State chipped away at the K-State lead with three 3-point field goals on consecutive possessions in a two and a half minute span. A jumper by Kara McFarland trimmed K-State's lead to nine at 70-61, but senior guard Kari Kincaid scored five consecutive points to push the lead back to 16 with 1:05 to play.

Sweat, a 2009-10 preseason All-Big 12 honorable mention selection and a preseason Wooden Award candidate, paced five other Wildcats in double figures and added eight rebounds to her stat line.

Freshman Brittany Chambers tallied 12 points and sophomore Jalana Childs registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Freshmen guards Mariah White and Taelor Karr also finished with 10 points apiece in their first action in a K-State uniform.

Kansas State will host its final exhibition game on Monday against Pittsburg State. The Wildcats will open the 2009-2010 regular season on Saturday, November 14 against Indiana State at 5 p.m.
