Letter from A.D. John Currie -- August 3

It's hard to believe that August is upon us - the students will be moving back to campus soon and football and volleyball training camps get underway this week! I hope everyone has enjoyed their summer... below are some of the latest updates from inside K-State Athletics.

Check out the new k-statesports.com
This afternoon we launched a new and improved k-statesports.com that will provide you with more information, features and ways to follow Wildcat athletics. One of our top priorities as a department is to find ways to improve upon our fan experience and customer service, and we feel we have taken another step with this enhanced website - which includes free live audio streaming of all game broadcasts. Be sure to check it out and let us know what you think. As is customary with a project of such magnitude and layers of information, there may be a few pages or areas on the site that are temporarily unavailable over the course of the next week or two. Both our staff and the support team at CBSSports.com have been hard at work on this project for the past several months and will continue to iron out any bugs that we find after the launch.

Four weeks until kickoff
With football practice getting underway this week, we close in on four weeks until the season opener and Second Annual Family Reunion against UCLA. Less than 4,000 tickets remain, so we encourage you to act now and reserve your place in Bill Snyder Family Stadium - it's Harley Day on September 4 as well! Call the ticket office at 1-800-221-CATS, order tickets online, or stop by the ticket office in Bramlage Coliseum to purchase tickets to the opener for as little as $35 or season tickets for all six exciting home contests. We look forward to seeing you there!

Fan appreciation day set
Also, for scheduling purposes, our annual football fan appreciation day and autograph session has been set for the evening of Saturday, August 21. Check back to k-statesports.com as more details become available.

Work on football schedules continuing
In conjunction with the conference office, we are continuing to work on our future football schedules. Since we will likely have a nine-game conference schedule in 2011, we have reached a mutual agreement with Oregon to cancel that series without any financial penalty to either school. I am confident that we will reach our goal of having seven home games in 2011, but there are still a few moving parts. We are still on track to have our 2011 schedule in place and announced in the near future. I appreciate your patience!

Reserve your seat in Ahearn
With the start of volleyball just a few weeks away, we are excited to debut our new reserved chairbacks inside Ahearn Field House. With only a few remaining, get your order in by the August 6 deadline for consideration. You won't want to miss out on the Wildcat 4-Pack - four GA season tickets for just $120 - that's only $2 per game. Visit k-statesports.com or call the ticket office for more ticket information. First home match is scheduled for September 1.

Cats keep busy this summer
The summer remains a busy time for our student-athletes as approximately 200 remained on campus and enrolled in summer school. Many of them also remained active in the community and participated in various leadership positions, and I thought it was important to recognize a few of them. We had six student-athletes attend the Big 12 Leadership Summit in Dallas as JuliAnne Chisholm (volleyball), Jalana Childs (women's basketball), Jason Schulte (men's golf), Jack Sachse (track and field), Adrian Hilburn (football) and Tiana Shelton (equestrian) represented K-State. Victor Ojeleye (men's basketball) and Kelsey Hill (women's basketball) also attended the Big 12 In-Person SAAC meeting hosted at KU during the weekend of July 16-18. Check back each month to our K-State Sports Extra feature at k-statesports.com as we continue to highlight our programs' community involvement and efforts.

New concessionaire selected for K-State Athletics
We are excited to announce that Sodexo, Inc., has been selected as the official concessionaire for all of K-State Athletics venues beginning this season in an effort to consolidate our operations and continue our commitment to the best fan experience in the Big 12. Sodexo, the biggest player in college sports food service, provides concession services to athletic venues across the country including those at Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, Oklahoma State, Auburn and UCLA. You will be pleased with what they will bring to our facilities. Stay tuned as we make a formal announcement with more details. Also, other customer service/fan experience improvements for Bill Snyder Family Stadium and Bramlage Coliseum will be announced soon so be sure to check k-statesports.com for the latest information.

Basketball season not too far away
Season tickets for men's and women's basketball are currently on sale. New procedures have been established for those wishing to obtain men's tickets. Fans who do not currently hold season tickets may complete a new season ticket application online or may contact the K-State Athletics Ticket Office at (800) 221.CATS. Ticket renewal invoices and information brochures were mailed a few weeks ago to all 2009-10 men's basketball season ticket holders, who have until Tuesday, Aug. 31, to renew their seats. It is sure to be another exciting season as the Big 12 announced that Coach Martin's men's team will be a part of a school-record four Big Monday games, including home match-ups with KU and Baylor. Women's basketball season tickets begin at $78 for general admission, while bench and chairback seating is available for $99 and $132. We are also offering a "Wildcat 4-Pack" this season for women's basketball, which consists of four general admission tickets for $200.

That's it for today! We look forward to seeing you in Manhattan and Bill Snyder Family Stadium in just a few short weeks, and............

Go Cats!
