Letter from A.D. John Currie - April 4

Good afternoon Wildcats!

I can't think of a better way to spend a beautiful weekend in Manhattan than sitting at Tointon Family Stadium cheering on the Cats. Sunday's weather was tremendous as Coach Hill's team knocked off No. 5 Texas A&M, 9-4, behind a big day at the plate from reigning Big 12 Player of the Year Nick Martini. Not only did Nick go 3-for-5 in the game, but he set a new NCAA record for consecutive games reaching base safely at 87!

Also on Sunday, our women's rowing team finished third in the top collegiate race of the weekend in San Diego and our 31st-ranked tennis team improved to 12-4 and 3-3 in conference play with a 5-2 win at Iowa State. The Wildcat netters are now 4-1 in road matches and have reached the 12-win mark for the first time since 2003.

For those who have been to or driven past Bramlage Coliseum and Bill Snyder Family Stadium recently, you can see that the construction phases of both the Basketball Training Facility and east-side restroom addition have begun! Construction fencing was erected last week around the training facility site, while equipment has been moved on the east concourse of the football stadium as site preparations are underway. We will be providing live online updates and live look-ins via a webcam in the coming weeks at k-statesports.com, so check back and watch the progress!

I also would like to congratulate our staff, fans and women's basketball program as K-State was recently selected by the NCAA as the 2010-11 NCAA Pack the House Challenge winner for the Big 12 Conference! More than 9,000 fans cheered on the Cats January 9 and helped the squad to a big win over Oklahoma State. Congratulations to Drew Claassen, Joni Smoller and Chelsi Medved of our Fan Experience and Sales Office and many others who helped make this a successful event!

Coach Snyder and our football team begin spring practice on Wednesday and tickets for both the April 30 Purple/White game and 2011 season are currently on sale. The 2011 season opener is September 3 against Eastern Kentucky and will mark the third-annual K-State Family Reunion. Season tickets for the seven-game home schedule, which includes five Big 12 Conference games, are currently available for as little as $21 per game. Visit k-statesports.com or call the ticket office at 1-800-221-CATS for more information.

This weekend, both baseball and tennis will be playing at home, while the track team heads to the prestigious Texas Relays in Austin. The tennis squad hosts Colorado on Friday and Missouri on Sunday - both matches will begin at 1 p.m., at the Wamego Recreation Complex. The baseball squad hosts Oklahoma at 6:30 p.m., 2 p.m. and 1 p.m. Friday through Sunday at Tointon Family Stadium.

That's it for today. Remember you can follow all things K-State Athletics on your mobile phone via Twitter (@kstatesports and @kstate_gameday), Facebook (K-State Sports) and K-State Gametracker Mobile. Visit k-statesports.com for more information.

We'll see you this weekend and....Go Cats!
