It has been a great weekend to be a Wildcat with big wins by our women's volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball and football teams - including Coach Fritz's squad's upset of No. 2 Nebraska (to advance to the NCAA volleyball Sweet 16), and Coach Snyder's football charges capturing their 10th win of the season over Iowa State on senior day. Thanks to all the fans that braved the weather conditions on Saturday - you made a big difference, as you have all season, in yet another courageous win by our student-athletes!
Cats Headed to AT&T Cotton Bowl for #6 vs. #8 Matchup with
Arkansas
Following a
terrific year from Coach Snyder, our coaches and student-athletes, we're
pleased to announce that we have accepted an invitation to play Arkansas in the
2012 AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic. The AT&T Cotton Bowl is one of the most
storied and tradition-rich bowls in the country, and will kick-off January 6 in
arguably the best venue in all of sports, Cowboys Stadium. Also, the Cotton
Bowl will be one of only three bowls, in addition to the BCS National
Championship, to have matchups of two Top 10 teams.
The Dallas-Fort Worth area is one of our top out of state markets, from our
large alumni base to recruiting grounds for all of our programs, and we are
looking forward to this terrific opportunity. Executive Director Rick
Baker, Chairman Tommy Bain and the entire Cotton Bowl organization are
well-known for their high level of integrity and commitment to a world-class
event.
We appreciate our fans' continued support of our football program by making it
a priority to pack Bill Snyder Family Stadium with purple, and with our storied
and nationally renowned bowl travel, we know that Wildcat Nation will descend
upon the Dallas area and tremendously represent Kansas State University.
The demand and excitement surrounding the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic is at an
all-time high and K-State's allotment of 12,500 tickets has been sold out
through pre-orders. Ticket locations for pre-orders will be assigned in order
of the K-State Athletics Priority Point System and follow post-season priority
limits. Ticket shipments are expected to be mailed by priority delivery at
least two weeks prior to the game. Fans who did not pre-order tickets who wish
to attend the Cotton Bowl should purchase tickets through the official ticket
exchange on the AT&T Cotton Bowl website at www.attcottonbowl.com.
Click here for more information on the bowl game, which includes student ticket
information and official Alumni Association travel packages, and please forward
this information to your K-State friends. Our home field advantage has been
tremendous all year- thank you very much - and now it's time to turn Dallas
purple.
Volleyball Headed to the Sweet 16!
Congratulations to Coach Fritz and our volleyball team on one of the most
exciting wins in school history on Friday evening as the Wildcats took down the
No. 2 Huskers in Lincoln for the first time since 2003 to advance to the Sweet
16 of the NCAA Tournament. The Purple nation, along with our band and
cheerleaders, showed up in Lincoln and made a huge difference in what is
arguably the toughest environment in all of college volleyball. Following wins
over Wichita State and Nebraska, the Cats will take on Pepperdine next weekend
in Honolulu, Hawai'i.
Basketball Update
Both the men's and women's basketball teams are coming off wins as Coach
Martin and his squad knocked off George Washington at home last Thursday and
Virginia Tech on the road earlier this evening for his 100th win as head coach,
while the women's squad won an exciting overtime thriller with Iowa on Saturday
night. Next up for the men is a matchup with West Virginia and former Wildcat
head coach Bob Huggins in Wichita on Thursday night. We look forward to seeing
you at INTRUST Bank Arena as we are excited to bring Wildcat basketball to our
fans in the southern portion of the state.
That's it for today. Again, we are so proud of all our student-athletes and
coaches and how they continually represent our university and community the
right way, and we appreciate your support in providing them a world-class
experience at K-State. See you soon at Bramlage Coliseum - or Thursday night in
Wichita's INTRUST Bank Arena - and of course in Texas for the AT&T Cotton
Bowl, and.......Go Cats!
