A Letter From John Currie - July 8
Dear Wildcat Nation,
Today marks one month since my first day on the job on June 8th. I have had the chance to meet so many extraordinary K-State people, both here in Manhattan and throughout the state.
It has been fun to get out on the road and meet with fans and supporters at eight Catbacker events in Great Bend, Hutchinson, Marysville, Wichita, Kansas City, Salina, Emporia and Topeka, and I appreciate the warm welcome and support I have received from our fans. We are truly fortunate to have such loyal and avid fans.
We are also privileged to have a loyal and engaged student body at K-State. I was able to spend time on my first day on the job at the Union with a few members of the Collegian staff and begin what I hope is an open line of communication with students. Last week, I had a great visit with several of our SGA leaders. Our students are an integral part of our home-field advantage and our goal of having the best fan experience in the Big 12.
I have now met face-to-face with all of our head coaches, including Coach Snyder, to better understand each of our programs and opportunities. It was a pleasure for me to sit down with one of the all-time greats in college football, and we are excited about the future of K-State Football. As President Schulz and I emphasized in our June 22 email to alumni and friends, Coach Snyder has always put the interest of K-State first and has been a true ambassador to this university, community and state.
We all know that many of the headlines regarding K-State over the last month have not been positive. Over the next few days, I will be making some specific statements about the accountability measures we are putting in place to re-earn your trust and ensure that we are always spending the money of our fans and donors as they intend.
At the same time, we are very proud of the athletic and academic performances of our student-athletes and teams. We are excited about this upcoming athletic year and are looking forward to the September 5 home-opener against UMass. You can also expect very shortly to hear some exciting announcements about our initiatives to ensure that we have options for all of our fans to attend football games at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
