15 Home Matches Highlight 2016 Schedule

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Featuring 10 NCAA Tournament teams and 15 home matches, the complete 2016 K-State volleyball schedule was announced by head coach @Suzie F.

K-State’s 21 opponents combined for a .631 winning percentage in 2015 (415-243) while 10 were ranked in the top-50 of the final RPI and 13 in the top-100. Six teams were also slotted in last year’s final American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) top-25 poll.

The season opens up with the three-day Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational at the University of Hawaii August 26-28, where the Wildcats will face three postseason teams from a year ago in Arizona, Hawaii and Wisconsin. The Wildcats match up against Arizona in the season opener on Friday, August 26 followed by Hawaii on August 27 and Wisconsin on August 28. It will be K-State’s first trip to Hawaii since 2010.

After the trip out west, K-State hosts back-to-back tournaments in Manhattan in early September. The K-State Invitational, held in Bramlage Coliseum September 2-3, will feature Michigan, Tennessee State and Georgia Tech. The Wildcat Classic, meanwhile, will take place in Ahearn Field House September 9-10 and include Mississippi State, Miami (FL) and Loyola.

Following the consecutive home tournaments, K-State will host Creighton in Ahearn Field House on Tuesday, September 13. It will be the Bluejays’ first visit to Manhattan since 2011.

The Wildcats’ non-conference slate for the regular season comes to an end with the Arkansas Tournament September 16-17. The trip to Fayetteville, K-State’s second in the last four seasons, will have the Wildcats take on UMKC, Arkansas (coached by former K-State assistant Jason Watson) and Southern Miss.

The double round-robin Big 12 schedule gets underway for the Wildcats at home on Wednesday, September 23 when they take on Iowa State. For the month of October, K-State will play all of its home conference matches on Saturdays as it faces Texas (October 1), TCU (October 8), West Virginia (October 22) and Baylor (October 29). 

In November, K-State hosts KU on Wednesday, November 2 and Oklahoma on Wednesday, November 16 before the regular season finale against Texas Tech on Saturday, November 26.

While K-State’s first Big 12 road match is set for Sunday, September 25 at Baylor, the Wildcats’ midweek road matches include at Texas Tech (October 5), KU (October 12), Iowa State (October 26) and West Virginia (November 9).

K-State is set to return 11 letterwinners from last year’s NCAA Tournament team, including seniors Katie Brand, Kersten Kober, Katie Reininger and Brooke Sassin. Brand and Sassin earned All-Big 12 honors last season while Brand also picked up her second career AVCA All-America Honorable Mention accolade. Other key returners include All-Big 12 Freshman Team selections Alyssa Schultejans and Macy Flowers, opposite hitter Bryna Vogell, and 2014 All-America Honorable Mention and All-Big 12 First Team honoree Kylee Zumach, who was granted a medical redshirt for the 2015 season.

Season tickets for the 2016 campaign, which start at $2 per match, are on sale now and can be purchased by clicking here, calling 1-800-221-CATS (2287) or stopping by the K-State Athletics Ticket Office in Bramlage Coliseum. 

Season ticket options include chairbacks ($100), reserved cat cushions ($60 for adults/$55 for youth, senior, military, faculty), and general admission bench ($50 for adults/$40 for youth, senior, military, faculty). The Wildcat 4 Pack is also available, which offers four general admission bench tickets for $120.

The Early Bird deadline for season tickets is Friday, May 20. Fans that purchase by that date will have all ticket processing fees waived, a free large popcorn per account for the September 21 match vs. Iowa State and two free tickets and guest passes to the Season Ticket Holder Appreciation Night.
