Dr. Sheahon Zenger is beginning his fourth year at Kansas State as an associate athletics director following a stint as assistant athletics director for major gifts at K-State. He is responsible for administering the operation of the Mike Ahearn Scholarship Fund, as well as assisting in the implementation of Plan 2002, Kansas State’s plan to offer priority football seating for Ahearn Fund donors.
He came to the athletics department from the College of Business Administration where he spent the previous 18 months as the director of development. Prior to returning to his alma mater in 2000, he was an assistant football coach at the University of Wyoming for three years where he held the titles of assistant head coach, recruiting coordinator and running back coach. He also spent time as an assistant coach at South Florida.
Zenger began his coaching career as an assistant at Manhattan High School in 1987. He then moved to Drake University in 1988 before accepting a graduate assistantship with Bill Snyder and the incoming staff at K-State in 1989. Following the 1989 season, he was elevated to the position of director of football operations and served in that capacity until May 1992.
Zenger earned his bachelor’s degree in English education from Kansas State in 1988, and added a master’s degree in journalism and mass communications from Kansas State in 1992. He completed his Ph.D. at the University Kansas in 1996.
