MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State volleyball will be showcased nationally on ESPN2 and ESPNU as four Wildcat matches will be broadcast this season to help make up the Big 12’s national television schedule, the conference office and television partners announced Thursday.
K-State’s home match on Sunday, September 24 with in-state rival Kansas will air on ESPN2 at 12 p.m., while home matches vs. Iowa State (October 25, 8 p.m.) and Texas (November 1, 8 p.m.) will be featured on ESPNU. A Wednesday, October 4 road meeting with TCU in Fort Worth will air on ESPNU at 8 p.m.
It marks the third straight season the Wildcats will be featured on ESPN2 or ESPNU. Last season, K-State’s road matches at KU and Iowa State were broadcast.
This year, three home matches will be nationally televised from Ahearn Field House with two matches featuring opponents ranked in the top 10 of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Preseason Top 25 Poll. The Sunflower Showdown, originally slated for Saturday, September 23, has KU slotted at No. 8 while the Longhorns visit Manhattan as the nation’s No.1-ranked squad entering 2017.
The Big 12 will have a total of nine nationally televised matches during the 2017 season between ESPN and FOX Sports. K-State’s four matches are the second-most in the league, with Texas being showcased five times.
The Wildcats, led by 17th-year head coach Suzie Fritz, earned the right to be a host site for the first two rounds of the NCAA’s postseason and advanced to the second round for the first time since 2011. The Cats return 10 letterwinners from last year’s team that finished tied for fourth in the Big 12 standings for the second consecutive season. Among the returners are All-Big 12 selections Bryna Vogel, Elle Sandbothe and Kylee Zumach.
K-State will host an exhibition match vs. Creighton on Friday, August 18 at Ahearn Field House. Admission is free to all fans and first serve is set for 6 p.m.
K-State officially begins its 2017 season Friday, August 25 against Pacific in Corvallis, Oregon, as part of a two-day tournament hosted by Oregon State.
