K-State Returns to Action at Trinity Forest Invitational
Sep 22, 2017 | Men's Golf
After improving each round during its season-opening event, the Kansas State men's golf team looks to continue its momentum at the inaugural Trinity Forest Invitational, Sunday through Tuesday, at the par-71, 7,302-yard Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas, Texas.
K-State will send five members of the team to compete in the event with Jacob Eklund, Roland Massimino, Ben Fernandez, JC Campbell and Jeremy Gandon making up the scoring lineup.
"We are excited to play this weekend against a strong field on a first-class golf course," head coach Grant Robbins said. "We got a look at Trinity Forest last spring during our practice trip, and it is a unique course that requires a lot of creativity, especially around the greens.
"This will be a great early-season test for our team and I know they look forward to the challenge."
K-State is coming off a tie for eighth place in the Badger Invitational at 10-over par 874 where the Wildcats bettered their score all three rounds and finished with an 18-shot improvement from rounds one to three.
Eklund carded a pair of under-par rounds to finish the tournament in Wisconsin and led the team by tying for 15th at 2-under par 214. Campbell, competing as an individual, tied for 38th at 6-over par 222, which included a 2-under par 70 in the final round. Massimino, who finished third on the team in stroke average last year, will be making his season debut.
The Wildcats will be joined in the Trinity Forest Invitational by Auburn, Ball State, Clemson, Florida, Iowa, North Texas, Oregon, Pepperdine, SMU, Texas Tech, Texas and USC.
