MANHATTAN, Kansas – K-State women's basketball head coach Jeff Mittie announced on Thursday the addition of center Anastasia Tsybaeva to a National Letter of Intent (NLI). Tsybaeva will join the Wildcats for the upcoming 2017-18 season and have two seasons to contribute to the lineup.
Tsybaeva joins an incoming quintet of freshmen for the 2017-18 season including: guards Cymone Goodrich (Chicago, Illinois), Rachel Ranke (Burnsville, Minnesota) and Alisa Wiggins (Montclair, New Jersey) and posts Mary Lakes (Peoria, Illinois) and Ashley Ray (Girard, Kansas) and fellow junior college transfer Kali Jones (Murrieta, California).
Prior to the addition of Tsybaeva, Mittie's incoming class for the 2017-18 season earned a ranking of No. 26 in the nation by Blue Star Basketball Report and number 32 in the nation by Prospects Nation.
Tsybaeva, who is the tallest player in program history at 6'7", was named All-SCC Second Team honors in 2017 averaging 7.3 points (203 total points), 6.0 rebounds (167 total rebounds) and 2.8 blocks (67 total blocks) while playing in 28 games and starting 24 games. She led East Los Angeles in blocks and was third in the South Coast – North Division in blocks per game. She ranked 13th in rebounding and third on the team.
"I like her upside," said Mittie about the Wildcats' newest post player. "She has good touch around the rim and has the ability to knock down face up jumpers."
In her freshman season with East Los Angeles College, Tsybaeva notched 32 games played and averaged 6.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 32 games played. She achieved double figures in scoring in nine games and tallied three games in doubles figures in rebounding.
In her prep career at Burbank High School, Tsybaeva earned 2015 All-Pacific League Second Team honors while averaging 10.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game.
Kansas State concluded the 49th season in program history with 23 wins, the most since the 2008-09 season. The Wildcats made the 15th NCAA Tournament appearance in program history and advanced a round in the tournament for the 11th time.
The Wildcats registered an 11-7 mark in the Big 12 and a fourth-place finish in the league. The 11 wins were the most since K-State won the Big 12 in 2007-08. This was the third straight season under Mittie that K-State has improved its league win total from one season to the next.
K-State women's basketball will celebrate its 50th season of action during the 2017-18 season. For more information on season tickets for the 2017-18 season, contact the K-State Athletics Ticket Office by calling 1-800-221-CATS or visit www.kstatesports.com/tickets.
