Jaffrey Cracks Top Five, Wildcats Finish in Eighth

Feb 26, 2018 | Women's Golf

PEORIA, Ariz. – Kansas State senior women's golfer Connie Jaffrey had a strong showing on Monday to propel her to a fifth-place finish during the final round of the Westbrook Spring Invitational at the par-72, 6,252-yard Westbrook Village Golf Club.

Jaffrey tied a career low during the final round by shooting a 6-under par 66 to finish with a 54-hole score of 8-under par 208. Both her third-round and tournament scores were the third lowest in school history. The Kilwinning, Scotland, native recorded nine birdies on Monday, including six on the back nine.

Jaffrey's performance helped the Wildcats card a 5-under par 283 in the final round, good enough for the third-lowest 54-hole score in team history. The Wildcats moved up one spot on Monday as they finished in eighth place at 8-under par 856.

"Round two held us back," head coach Kristi Knight said. "The course conditions were great for scoring. We were unable to make enough birdies to contend. However, I am proud of the effort. Three under-par rounds today shows character. These last two days of competition will be a good springboard for Tucson next week."

Freshmen Niamh McSherry and Ella Adams also carded career-best 54-hole scores. McSherry carded a 3-under par 213 to tie for 20th place, while Adams shot a 3-over par 219 to tie for 48th. Rounding out the Cats were two more freshmen in Reid Isaac, who tied for 33rd place with a score of even-par 216, and Darby Deans, who carded a 19-over par 235 to finish in a tie for 83rd.

Oklahoma claimed the team title by firing an impressive 25-under par 839, one stroke ahead of second place Ohio State. The Buckeyes' Jaclyn Lee was the individual victor with a winning score of 19-under par 197.

K-State will be back in action next week, March 5-6, as it travels to Tucson, Arizona, to compete in the Arizona Wildcat Invitational.
