Combined Events Represent on Day One of Roadrunner Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Day one of the Roadrunner Invitational featured several Wildcats competing in the combined events for K-State, as sophomore Nina Schultz leads the women's heptathlon with 3,645 points after day one of the Roadrunner Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.
Schultz claimed event victories in each of her four events, while juniors Max Estill and Simone Fassina stand in third and fourth, respectively, in the men's decathlon through day one of competition. Action resumes on Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. CT.
"I thought the men did about what I was expecting, given their training. I thought they competed well," director of Track and Field and Cross Country Cliff Rovelto said. "Nina [Schultz] did well, the hurdles and 200 were very strong given the conditions. All in all, it was a good start."
The day got started with the men's decathlon, where Fassina claimed an event victory in the men's shot put by throwing 13.22m/43-04.50, earning 681 points. Estill followed Fassina's performance up by placing second in the men's 400 meters in 53.54 in tough conditions.
For Schultz, the sophomore from New Westminster, Canada claimed victories in each of the four events, including great finishes in the 100-meter hurdles and 200 meters. Schultz will enter day two with over a 600-point advantage over second-place.
Day two of the Roadrunner Invitational will feature the conclusion of the combined events, as the events get started at 10:00 a.m. Field events will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the women's and men's hammer throw, before the shot put and javelin.
