Mar 23, 2018 | Men's Golf
PALM DESERT, Calif. – The Kansas State men's golf team carded an 8-over par 584 over the first two rounds of the K-State BIGHORN Invitational on Friday as the Wildcats are in 11th place. K-State was led by sophomore Jacob Eklund, who is tied for 20th at 2-under par 142.
K-State shot identical rounds of 4-over par 292 on Friday, which included five birdies by Eklund in the second round when he shot a 2-under par 70.
"It was a little bit of a struggle for us today," head coach Grant Robbins said. "I thought Jacob played pretty solid. He had a triple bogey in round two but did a great job of bouncing back and getting it back to even.
"We just have to stay positive. We are capable of a low round, but we have to put this behind us and focus on finishing strong tomorrow."
The Wildcats are one shot behind 10th-place Washington State and two strokes shy of a tie for eighth place between Indiana and South Alabama.
JC Campbell turned in a 1-over par 145 over the first two rounds, his best 36-hole mark as a Wildcat thanks to an even-par 72 in the afternoon. The Memphis transfer is tied for 29th place. Roland Massimino also shot even par in the afternoon and enters final-round play tied for 37th at 3-over par 147.
Rounding out the K-State scoring lineup is Jeremy Gandon, who is tied for 50th at 6-over par 150, and Ben Fernandez, who is tied for 56th at 8-over par 152.
The Wildcats also have three players participating as individuals in the event, and that group is led by redshirt freshman Connor Chesky, who is tied for 39th at 4-over par 148. Kyle Vance and Matthieu Caron carded a 14-over par 158 and an 18-over par 162, respectively.
No. 15 Illinois leads the field at 20-under par 556, four strokes ahead of Mississippi State. The Illini and Bulldogs each have a player tied atop the individual leaderboard with the Michael Feagles (Illinois) and Taylor Bibbs (Mississippi State) entering the final round at 7-under par 137.
Tee times for the final round of the K-State BIGHORN Invitational are set to begin at 8 a.m. (PT) off holes No. 1 and 10. Live stats can be followed at Golfstat.com or by clicking here.
