
Jaffrey Tied for Seventh, Wildcats Tied for Sixth in Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. – Kansas State senior Connie Jaffrey continued her hot streak on Friday as she is tied for seventh place following the first round of the MountainView Collegiate Invitational at the par-72, 6,227-yard MountainView Golf Club.
Jaffrey carded a 1-under par 71 in round one, tallying a team-best three birdies on the day, to lead the sixth-place Wildcats. She is one stroke away from a tie for fifth and two strokes out of second.
The Wildcats carded a 10-over par 298 on Friday as is tied with in-state foe Wichita State. The Wildcats are only three strokes away from fifth and five away from third.
"Connie had a solid round," head coach Kristi Knight said. "We are over-trying at times. Jared (Helin) and I can both see we are close to a great round. We have to let it come to us."
Following Jaffrey was the freshmen duo of Ella Adams and Niamh McSherry as both carded a 3-over par 75 and are tied for 31st place. Rounding out the Cats were freshmen Darby Deans and Reid Isaac, who carded a 5-over par 77 and 8-over par 80, respectively, to stand in a tie for 50th and 67th place.
Illinois tops the leaderboard after carding an even-par 288. The Illini hold a two-stroke lead over second place San Jose State. Kansas' Sera Tadokoro is atop the individual leaderboard, one stroke ahead of a three-way tie for second place.
The MountainView Collegiate will continue Saturday with an 8 a.m. (MT) start, and live results can be followed on www.birdiefire.com.
