MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State baseball placed nine student-athletes on the 2018 Academic All-Big 12 teams, including eight first-team selections, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Senior Jake Biller, sophomore Will Brennan, sophomore Tyler Eckberg, junior Brogan Heinen, sophomore Jared Marolf, redshirt junior TK McWhertor, sophomore Connor Rule and senior Hudson Treu were each named First Team Academic All-Big 12 while senior Kyle Barfield earned second-team honors.
The eight first-team selections are the most K-State has ever placed on the Academic All-Big 12 team while the nine total honorees are its most since 2014.
Biller, a kinesiology major from Manhattan, was one of three recognized with a perfect 4.00 grade-point average out of the 96 student-athletes featured on the prestigious squads.
Heinen earns his second academic award, as the operations management major was named Second Team Academic All-Big 12 in 2017.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 or better GPA either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while second-team selections hold a 3.00-3.19 GPA.
K-State enters its final week of the regular season with a Tuesday night matchup at Wichita State before a trip to San Francisco to take on the Dons beginnings Thursday. Tuesday's game is set for 6 p.m. and can be seen on the ESPN app. Fans can listen live on KMAN (93.3 FM, 1350 AM).
