MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State volleyball's 2018 recruiting class, which features four standouts, was tabbed No. 26 in PrepVolleyball.com's annual top-30 recruiting classes list, the publication announced.
Head coach Suzie Fritz's class includes outside hitter/middle blocker Abigail Archibong (Shawnee, Kansas), outside hitter Holly Bonde (Minooka, Illinois), middle blocker Kayley Hollywood (Houston, Texas) and opposite Gloria Mutiri (Sand Springs, Oklahoma).
"As a whole, this is a group of high-achieving young women that will fit in seamlessly with the outstanding women on our team," Fritz said of the signing class. "This group possesses not only a high level of athletic potential, but also an exciting combination of leadership, competitiveness and proven academic success and preparedness. These young women come from amazing and supportive families that are looking forward to becoming part of the K-State family."
Mutiri and Hollywood were each named PrepVolleyball.com's Senior Aces as one of the country's top 250 recruits, with Mutiri being the No. 15 national recruit on that list.
Archibong and Mutiri have been a part of the K-State program since January, with both graduating high school a semester early to join the program for its spring season.
Archibong, a three-year letterwinner at Mill Valley High School, led her team to the semifinal round of the substate tournament in Pittsburg in her senior season in which she was named first team all-conference. She was voted Offensive Player of the Year and Best Teammate on her squad while also receiving an all-conference academic honorable mention honor.
Bonde collected over 3.00 kills per set while hitting over .450 in her senior season at Minooka. An all-conference selection, she led her team to a runner-up finish at the Illinois High School Association State Tournament each of the last two seasons.
Hollywood, a 6-foot-5 middle blocker, comes to K-State as a three-year letterwinner at Fort Bend Austin High School. Accumulating 630 kills and 297 blocks in her career, she helped the Bulldogs reach the state championship tournament in three consecutive seasons and was named Player of the Year in her district in 2017 along with being a three-time first-team all-district selection.
Mutiri was selected to the Under Armour High School All-America Second Team, as announced by the AVCA. Voted the Tulsa World Player of the Year, Mutiri was also named all-state by the Oklahoma Coaches Association as the leading scorer for Charles Page High School each of the past four years, averaging 4.50 kills/set.
K-State was one of five Big 12 schools to check in on PrepVolleyball.com's list, joining Texas (6), TCU (21), Kansas (23) and Iowa State (24).
The Wildcats officially embark on their 2018 season at the Texaco Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii, from August 24-26. The Cats will face off with host Hawaii, UCLA and Gonzaga.
The home opener at Ahearn Field House is set for Tuesday, September 4 at 6 p.m. against Missouri State.
