Shadd Receives Medical Hardship Waiver

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Forward Nigel Shadd has received a hardship waiver from the Big 12 Conference after playing in just eight games due to injury as a true freshman in 2017-18.

With the waiver, Shadd will be a redshirt freshman in 2018-19 with four years of eligibility remaining.

A 6-foot-9, 235-pound forward from Mesa, Arizona, Shadd saw action in eight of the first 15 games, averaging 1.1 points on 37.5 percent shooting (3-of-8) with 2.0 rebounds in 6.3 minutes per game. He scored in two games, including a season-high 5 points on perfect 2-of-2 shooting from the field against USC Upstate on December 5, 2017 to go with 3 rebounds in a season-best 11 minutes. He missed the final 22 games due to injury.

A Top 10 recruit out of Arizona, Shadd averaged a double-double (13.4 ppg., 10.1 rpg.) in his high school career, collecting 46 career double-doubles, including two triple-doubles, at Tri-City Christian Academy in Chandler, Arizona. He led the Warriors to an 82-10 overall record during his prep career, which included a state championship in 2014 and state runner-up finishes in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Shadd is among 11 players returning K-State in 2018-19, including all six who earned starts, from a team that won 25 games a season ago and advanced to its first NCAA Elite Eight in eight years.

Led by All-Big 12 selections Dean Wade (16.2 ppg., 6.2 rpg.) and Barry Brown, Jr., (15.9 ppg., 3.1 rpg.), the Wildcats have received numerous preseason rankings, including eighth by NBCSports.com, 11th by Yahoo! Sports, 12th by ESPN.com, USA Today and CBSSports.com, 13th by The Athletic and 17th by Sports Illustrated.

The non-conference schedule is expected to be completed in the coming weeks with season tickets for the 2018-19 season set to go on sale Monday, June 11.
