MANHATTAN, Kan. – A week after the K-State men's golf team earned an All-Academic Team award, Wildcat junior golfer Jeremy Gandon and Roland Massimino have been named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Wednesday.
Gandon and Massimino – both finance majors – were among 265 Division I players to earn the award and the first Wildcats to do so since Jack Rickabaugh and Kyle Weldon following the 2015-16 season. To be eligible for the award, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.00 and maintain and minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2.
A product of Charpey, France, Gandon finished his junior campaign with a 72.72 stroke average, a new career best and the eighth-best mark in school history. He will enter his senior campaign with a 72.98 career stroke average, currently the top mark in school history.
Gandon concluded his season with an automatic individual bid to the NCAA Regionals after becoming K-State's first individual conference medalist in 67 years when he tied for first at the 2018 Big 12 Championship.
Massimino, a native of Lumberville, Pennsylvania, finished third on the team in 2017-18 with a 73.74 stroke average, while he earned two top-10 finishes, including a tie for fourth place at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate. He has accumulated a career stroke average of 73.94, which currently ranks ninth in school history.
Gandon and Massimino were also among a program-tying record six Wildcats named to the 2017-18 Academic All-Big 12 team with each being first-team members the two years they have been eligible for the award.
