FROM THE HEAD COACH
K-State Head Coach Jeff Mittie
On nobody playing more than 30 minutes…
"With the short turnaround I came into the game saying, let's get some rest early and with the score, I really just tried to keep everybody fresh and keep everybody engaged as much as possible. Nobody sat for very long minutes, but I tried to not have them play in too many long stretches. Just a good opportunity to get some more players in."
On Taryn Sides' performance…
"I think our ball movement is good. One thing I really notice is her footwork, she's always shot-ready. As a defender, you've got to get there quickly. Eyes on the rim are key, and having the mentality to take the shot is crucial. We've talked about this a lot. I kept telling her all summer that I wanted her to get her shot blocked because I wanted her to take so many threes that defenders would have to rush to contest them. That's when we started working on the sidestep three. If they do rush, they'll leave their feet, and that's when she needs to make the right read. She's put in the work, and she's done a great job with it."
On Zyanna Walker's performance…
"I thought this was one of Zy's better overall games. She got to the free throw line, which is incredibly important for her, and she was more decisive than she has been. Overall, it was one of her stronger performances. Defensively, you're right—she was all over the place, making a lot of plays."
On how the team has bounced back after the loss to OSU…
"I've been really pleased with their attention to detail. I've been really pleased with the ball movement. I thought today for probably 35 minutes of the game, it was really good. And there were probably two different, two and a half minute stretches where it got sloppy and not playing as well. But overall, I was concerned right before the Cincinnati game that we still were kind of licking our wounds a little bit. And obviously, I think from the point when we got on the bus to go to the Cincinnati game, I felt better about where I felt like our focus was our attention to detail."
UCF Head Coach Sytia Messer
On what makes K-State's offense hard to guard...Â
"Yeah, as we were scouting them, we talked about it, right? They have one of the best ball movement teams in the country. I think one of the reasons is that it's hard to defend when you're unselfish, and they move the ball around very well, and everybody knows their role. "
On K-State's defense…
"I think physically, they're tall, and they do a great job of keeping their hands up on defense and making it hard for you to see over and so I think that that's always a good sign of a good team to be able to, you know, force as many turnovers as they do and those kind of things."
