A Letter from A.D. John Currie - April 28, 2016

Good Afternoon K-State Nation,

Today we have a special announcement to make on behalf of the Manhattan community, Kansas State University and K-State Athletics in keeping with our core goal No. 2: Value to the University, Community and State.

On Saturday, September 10, Bill Snyder Family Stadium will host its first concert in 30 years when three-time Grammy Award winners and multi-platinum artists Zac Brown Band along with multi-platinum pop rock band Train come to Manhattan for a half-day festival sure to draw music fans from all over to America's #1 College Town.

The concert, in conjunction with Basis Entertainment and Marketing, will take place during our first bye week of the season, sandwiched between our road trip to Stanford September 2 and our home opener against FAU on September 17. Tickets will start at just $39 and will go on sale May 3 to Zac Brown Band fan club members and then May 6 for K-State students, Ahearn Fund members and season ticket holders. The general public can begin purchasing tickets on May 13. K-State’s suite and club ticket holders will be sent information on securing their tickets through Ahearn Fund Hospitality prior to the on-sale date.

We know how important K-State football weekends and 50,000 fans are to our local economy and merchants. When it became apparent that we would have six home games in 2016 instead of our usual seven we wanted to find a way to bring another major fall event to Bill Snyder Family Stadium, and I am really proud of Senior Associate Athletics Director Scott Garrett and our veteran Director of Facilities Jim Muller for their diligence and creativity in securing this special opportunity for Manhattan. And, I appreciate the flexibility and teamwork from Associate Head Football Coach Sean Snyder and Coach Bill Snyder in ensuring that we could host the Zac Brown Band and Train without affecting our team's preparation for Florida Atlantic.

The Manhattan event will cap Zac Brown Band's nationwide summer tour of 30-plus shows across North America which also includes stadium performances at Fenway Park, Target Field and Citi Field. This event is a great opportunity to further Manhattan's reputation in the national touring act music scene that has been established by Wayne Rouse’s renowned Country Stampede and McCain Auditorium Executive Director Todd Holmberg.

More information, including additional performing acts and ticket prices, will be announced in the coming weeks. Visit www.wildcatkickoff.com or www.kstatesports.com for more information, and you can watch a recap of our press conference announcement featuring several community leaders by visiting K-StateHD.TV.

Start planning now to be part of this special one-of-a-kind event in Bill Snyder Family Stadium. In the meantime, good luck to men's golf and women's tennis in Big 12 tournament action, baseball on the road at Iowa, rowing in the Sunflower Showdown and track and field in Lawrence this weekend!

Go Cats!

John
