Brand, Kober Voted CoSIDA Academic All-District

Full CoSIDA Release

MANHATTAN, Kan. – For the second straight season, seniors Katie Brand and Kersten Kober earn Academic All-District honors as the two were both voted to the District 7 First Team, College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced.

Brand and Kober, who were two of four Big 12 volleyball student-athletes named academic all-district, were recognized for being two of the nation’s top student-athletes for combined performances athletically and in the classroom. K-State was the only program to have multiple honorees.

As part of being named First Team Academic All-District, Brand and Kober advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

A native of Grand Island, Nebraska, Brand recently moved into second place on K-State’s career assists list in the rally-scoring era (2001). She currently leads the conference and ranks sixth in the NCAA with 11.61 assists per set. Brand also ranks second in program history with 66 career double-doubles. She has earned a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll five times in her career and earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in Fall 2015. Brand was recently accepted into a physician assistant graduate program at UMKC.

Kober, out of Southlake, Texas, has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA as an Accounting major during her time at K-State. Her hard work in the classroom and on the court earned her Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year in December 2015, becoming the volleyball program’s first recipient of the award. The 5-7 libero recently moved into third place on K-State’s all-time career digs chart in the rally-scoring era. She currently ranks fourth in the Big 12 with a team-best 3.91 digs per set.

With the inclusion of their second career honors, K-State has accumulated 20 academic all-district honors under head coach Suzie Fritz.

Brand and Kober are the first Wildcats to earn first-team honors in back-to-back seasons since 2008-09 (JuliAnne Chisholm).

The CoSIDA Academic All-District teams are made up of eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. District 7 is comprised of Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming.

K-State (17-7, 6-5 Big 12) returns to action on Saturday when it travels to TCU (10-11, 3-8) for a 5 p.m., first serve. Fans can listen to Rob Voelker call the match on local radio on 1350 KMAN and at k-statesports.com.
