Bryan Named Big 12 Athlete of the Week

MANHATTAN, Kan. – After a dominant performance in the high jump in his first outdoor meet of the season, sophomore Christoff Bryan  has been named Big 12 Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday.

The weekly honor is the first of Bryan’s career, while he is the second Wildcat to win a Big 12 weekly award after senior Akela Jones was named Athlete of the Week on April 20 after a record-breaking performance in the heptathlon at the Mt. SAC Relay Combined Events.

The Kingston, Jamaica native dominated the field at the Ward Haylett Invitational, which was held at R.V. Christian track this past weekend, winning the high jump with a personal best mark of 2.25m/7-04.50. Opening the event at 2.06m/6-09, Bryan hit every bar on his first attempt, including his winning mark.

Bryan’s mark is the second-best jump in the conference this season, only behind Texas Tech’s Trey Culver, who won last week’s Athlete of the Week award. The jump also ties him with Charles Burney for sixth place on the school’s all-time best list in the event.

Bryan and the Wildcats return to action this weekend in Fort Worth, Texas at the Lowdon Track and Field Complex for the Big 12 Championships. More information on the meet can be found by visiting the tournament central page here.
