MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State women’s golf team improved during the final day of competition of the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational held at Colbert Hills Golf Course on Tuesday. The Wildcats finished the event in fourth place at 26-over par 890.

Junior Madison Talley led the way for the Wildcats by carding a 2-under par in the third round. Talley finished tied for fifth with a 1-over par performance for the event.

Junior Katherine Gravel-Coursol shot a career best 54-hole score of 224, which featured a career-low 72 in the third round. Gravel-Coursol’s 18th-place finish is her second career top-20 showing, while senior Scotland Preston finished one stroke behind her at 9-over par 225 to place 19th. Sophomore Connie Jaffrey ended the event tied for 24th at 14-over par 230, and junior Paige Nelson carded 26-over 242 to tie for 50th. Playing as an individual, freshman Chloe Weir shot a 17-over par 233 to tie for 32nd.

"It was a rough start in the first round,” K-State head coach Kristi Knight said. “Maybe had some nerves. We will certainly need to be better out of the gate but overall they responded well in round two and three. They showed guts, and they improved each round. Madison had a strong top-five finish. I am proud of everyone’s effort. This was a solid field."

SMU won the team title by firing a 9-over par 873, just three strokes ahead of TCU. The
Mustangs’ Lindsey McCurdy took home the individual title thanks to a 6-under par third round to pull into first by one stroke at 2-under 214.

K-State will be back in action Sept. 19-21, as it heads to Norman, Oklahoma, for the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club.
