Cats in Ninth at Bridgestone Golf Collegiate

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Kansas State men’s golf team will enter its final round of the fall season in ninth place following the first and second rounds of the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate on Sunday at the par-72, 7,245-yard Grandover Resort – East Course.


The Wildcats carded an 8-over par 296 in the first round before improving their team score by 11 strokes with a 3-under par 285 in the second round to move up one spot on the leaderboard. TheWildcats enter the final round at 5-over par 581.


“It was a tough day for us today,” head coach Grant Robbins said. “The conditions were perfect for scoring, and we just did not play well. We got off to a poor start and did not make enough putts to get anything going. Fortunately, we have 18 holes left and I expect our guys to bounce back and have a solid round tomorrow.”


Junior Matt Green leads the Wildcats thanks to five birdies on the back nine en route to his second-round score of 1-under par 71. Green is tied for 21st at 1-under par 143, just one stroke away from entering the top-20.


Kyle Weldon carded an even-par 72 in the first round and a 2-over par 74 in the second round to put him in a tie for 34th. The senior carded five birdies on the day, including back-to-back birdies on hole Nos. 1 and 2 in the second round.


Three Wildcats – Jeremy Gandon, Oscar Spolander and Jack Rickabaugh – are tied for 43rd at 4-over par 148.


Gandon recorded three birdies in his second round to card an even-par 72 and improve his first round score by four strokes. Spolander carded a 2-under par 70 in his second round to jump 22 spots on the individual leaderboard.


In his first tournament as a Wildcat, Rickabaugh shot an even-par 72 in the second round, firing three birdies in a row on holes 12-14. The junior improved on his first-round score by four strokes.


Purdue leads the field entering the final round after carding a 33-under par 543. The Boilermakers also have the top individual in Austin Eoff, who is at 13-under par 131 thanks to an 8-under par 64 during the first round.


The final round of the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate will begin Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. (ET). Live results can be followed on www.golfstat.com, while results will be posted at www.k-statesports.com at the conclusion of the round.
