Cats to Compete in Golfweek Conference Challenge

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State men’s golf team will continue its fall slate this weekend with the 2015 Golfweek Conference Challenge, Friday through Sunday, at the par-72, 7,360-yard Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa.

The event is comprised of 18 holes each day. Tee times begin at 9 a.m., on both Friday and Saturday, while the final round on Sunday is an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start to decide the team and individual champions.

“We are looking forward to competing this weekend,” said head coach Grant Robbins. “It is a great golf course and will be a good chance for us to see how we stack up against some of the best teams in the country. We had a really solid week of practice, and I know the guys are eager to play again.”

The Wildcats will send a new scoring lineup to this tournament, which consists of Kyle Weldon, Oscar Spolander, Jeremy Gandon, Matt Green and Roland Massimino.

Kansas State will look to improve upon its eighth-place finish at the season-opening Rod Myers Invitational two weeks ago, while Weldon and Spolander look to pace the field for their second-straight showing after finishing fifth and 12th, respectively.

Green and Gandon will return to the lineup to play in their second tournament of the fall season, while this will mark Massimino’s debut tournament as a Wildcat.

“Roland played really well in the qualifying and earned a spot in the starting lineup,” said Robbins. “He is playing well and is gaining a lot of confidence.”

In addition to K-State, the field consists of teams from 15 different conferences nationwide, including defending national champion LSU, Army, Charleston Southern, Eastern Michigan, Furman, Idaho, Iowa, Long Beach State, North Carolina State, Pacific, San Jose State, Southern Illinois, SMU and VCU.
