Cross Country Starts 2015 at Bob Timmons Classic

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State’s cross country teams will kick off the 2015 season on Tuesday as the Wildcats travel to Lawrence, Kansas, to compete in the Bob Timmons Classic.

The women’s 5K race is set to begin at 6:30 p.m., while the men’s 6K race is slated to begin at 7 p.m.

Second-year head coach Ryun Godfrey is looking to keep improving as the teams enter competition for the first time this season.

“We did a time trial two weeks ago,” Godfrey said. “I am hoping we can improve on our time trial with Tuesday’s competition.”

The women’s side looks to replace two of its top-five runners in Erika Schiller and Laura Galvin. The team will rely on All-Big 12 and All-Midwest Region award winner Morgan Wedekind, as well as senior Mary Frances Donnelly and sophomore Kayla Doll.

On the men’s side, the team is looking to improve on a challenging 2014 season. Juniors Brett and Jeff Bachman, along with fellow junior Colton Donahue, will look to lead the team in 2015.

“I am also looking to see how well they run as a team,” Godfrey said. “I think on the men’s side we can keep a pretty tight pack.”

Godfrey is expecting a lot of improvement from this year’s squads and is excited to get the season underway.

“I am excited for Tuesday. I always look forward to competition,” Godfrey said. “This is why we put in all of the hard work.”
