Former Rower Named to U.S. Bobsled Team

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Former K-State rower Nicole Vogt was named to the 23-man roster for the U.S. bobsled team, the team announced on Monday.

Vogt was a member of the Wildcat rowing team from 2005 to 2010.

“I think it is a really good opportunity,” head coach Patrick Sweeney said. “She rowed with us for five years and she was really dedicated to the team.”

Vogt raced in the 1st Varsity 8+ boat for three seasons and won the Big 12 Championship during the 2008-09 season. She was named a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Scholar Athlete all four years she competed and was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team her senior year.

She became interested in bobsled after the 2010 Olympic Games and began participating in the sport after graduating from Kansas State.

“She learned a new sport when she came here like we do with everybody,” Sweeney said. “She then took that same idea off to her new sport when she graduated. I am hoping some of the things we taught her she used to help get selected to the U.S. bobsled team.”
