MANHATTAN, Kan.
– Iva Bago, Sara Castellano, Livia Cirnu and Palma Juhasz of K-State tennis were named to the 2016 Academic All-Big 12 Women’s Tennis First Team, the conference office announced.

Castellano (Food Science major) was one of five student-athletes named to the team with a 4.0 grade point average. It was the redshirt sophomore’s first career honor.

Bago (Kinesiology), Cirnu (Geography) and Juhasz (Business) all earned their second career honors as each were named to the first team in 2015 as well.

The four Wildcats help make up the 37 student-athletes named to the women’s team, including 33 first team recipients. K-State tied for the second most student-athletes represented on the first team among the 10 Big 12 schools.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

K-State closes out its regular season this weekend at home as it hosts three matches at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium. The weekend gets started on Friday when the Wildcats face Southern Illinois at 9:30 a.m. and then No. 14 Oklahoma State at 3 p.m.
