Four PR on Day One of Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational

Day 1 Results

LINCOLN, Neb.
– The Kansas State track and field team saw four athletes record personal bests on the first day of competition at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational on Friday. 

On the track, sophomore A’Keyla Mitchell and freshman Ranae McKenzie each set personal bests in the 400 meter dash. Mitchell took fourth place in the event with a time of 53.73, the fourth-best mark in school history, while McKenzie finished in 14th place with a mark of 56.41. 

Senior Akela Jones qualified for the 60 meter hurdles final on Saturday with a dominant performance, taking first place in the in the preliminaries with a time of 8.20. 

The Wildcats’ pole vault group also set personal bests on the first day of competition. Sophomore Megan Vanderpool recorded a mark of 3.73m/12-02.75 for a 13th-place finish, while newcomer Erin Smith finished with a mark of 3.43m/11-03.00. 

The throwers also posted a strong day in the field as Junior Janee’ Kassanavoid posted a third-place finish in weight throw with a mark of 19.05m/62-06.00. Senior Brady Grunder finished in fourth place in weight throw with a mark of 19.21m/63-00.25, while junior Mitch Dixon finished in fifth place with a throw 18.83m/61-09.50.

Day two of competition kicks off with the completion of the men’s heptathlon and continues with field events and track events at noon CT. The event concludes with the meet’s award ceremony, which will take place at 5 p.m.
