Annual Powercat Auction Caters to Cool Cats

Proud to be purple? This year’s Powercat Auction celebrates K-State’s school color with a nod to the fab fans who supported Wildcat athletics in the days of Vince Gibson and Cotton Fitzsimmons. “Deep Purple Daze … Groovin’ with the Cats” is set for Friday, April 20, at Bramlage Coliseum. The beaded curtain opens at 5:30 p.m.

The décor on the Bramlage floor will reflect the late 1960s and early ‘70s, but the schedule for this 23rd annual fundraiser will be similar to successful events in recent years. A silent auction featuring nifty items at many price points will precede a live auction, starting at 7:30p.m. Trips to exotic locales as well as numerous sports related packages are on the auction block.

Fans who can’t be in Manhattan during the auction don’t have to miss the fun. For the second year, bids for live auction items can be placed online beginning March 18 at www.k-statesports.com.

Once again, Rambler’s is catering the buffet-style meal, and Unwashed, a local band, will help set the mood with classic rock and pop tunes. Grab bags loaded with K-State paraphernalia and a donation drawing fitting the theme also will give auction-goers a chance to make the happenin’ scene.

Tickets are $50 each. Sponsorship opportunities also are available at $250, $1000 and $2500 levels. Proceeds from the event support the Mike Ahearn Scholarship Fund.
