K-State Head Coach Quotes

Head Coach Deb Patterson

Opening statement...

“I thought it was great to be back in Bramlage and get back home in front of our home crowd. We had a long stretch on the road. It seems like we were on the road a lot in the preseason and it feels really great to get back and get our feet on the ground before we go on the road again for two challenging matchups in Big 12 play. I thought that we did a nice job of asserting an inside presence tonight, obviously Ashley (Sweat) was a big part of that. I was real pleased to see us get some in and out action going on the offensive end of the floor. I was pleased to see in the second half we picked up our rebounding numbers. I think that was the one area in the first half where we were most disappointing. I thought our players answered the call in the second half and became more assertive on the boards, which was a big positive for us.”

On the stoppage of play in the first half...

“We changed our defensive look a little bit after the long break I thought that it would be good for us to work to get a little aggressive. We had been standing around for so long and I thought that was effective in generating some push there at that point in the game after such a long stoppage in play.”

On K-State’s rebounding effort...

“I think that we needed to bring a high level of accountability on rebounding; I believe they had 12 second-chance points at half. We talked about that being a big issue. No matter who you play, you have to limit those kinds of opportunities, that was a point of emphasis as we went in. I thought that we were not aggressive in the first half on the glass. I thought that we were trying to out-jump them a little bit or beat them to the spot to get the board and we were not as fundamental as we needed to be to be successful and that is what the numbers showed.
