Head Coach Deb Patterson Quotes

Her thoughts on the Wildcats 78-59 victory over Yale...
"I felt good about the fact that we had good ball distribution on the offensive end of the floor. I think we are beginning to understand a little bit more about what is it going to take to make is successful offensively. Defensively, I think our numbers were adequate. I don't like our turnover numbers on the night. That is something that, individually, we need to get more committed to. Valuing the ball and understanding the significance of turnovers is huge, but against a high-quality opponent that played very hard, especially in the first 30 minutes of the game, I think we played with pretty good balance on the night. But we have some things we have to build on heading into Big 12 play."

On the need to play with intensity...
"We have to learn that when the ball goes up, we have to come with some intensity. I didn't like our lack or focus and intensity early in the game. As we move forward, the two and three minutes that we are not ready to compete and not playing at the speed of the game can get you beat. So we are either going to learn it or get beat not learning it. It is critical that we got it but not without some challenges early on. Our young guards have to understand the necessity to dictate that early in the game, they need to be accountable and get the communication going. In my mind, there is nothing more important except being intense and ready to play. We need to be focused, have great intensity and be ready to play from the opening tip."

On today's early substitutions...
"I think at that point, I went to the bench pretty heavy. I wasn't pleased with the fact that we didn't respond as a group.  When we get a lead, we need to stay in and build off of it.  We understand that teams are going to make runs at us, but, I said all along that this isn't a team that is going to have really large margins.  On the positive side, wherever we are, we have to bring productivity to our possession think that when we went to our bench, we didn't really bring the pride and intensity that we needed to bring and it didn't take long to show that. Players that want their opportunity to step on the floor need to understand that, whether it is 30 seconds or two minutes, you can't change to the negative side. Again, that is something that we need to continue to learn and to be highly accountable for if you are going to play at this level."
