Texas Tech Head Coach and Player Quotes

Head Coach Bob Knight
On the game...

“We thought when our game was over on Saturday, that this game would be extremely tough. I don’t mean just in terms of trying to win it. It was a very hard game played defensively. We hoped that Kansas State was going to have to work to get points, and we knew that we were going to have to work to get points. I think it’s kind of amazing in this league this year any win is going to be really good for whoever gets it because there is going to be a lot of evenly played games in this league, just like Kansas State has had evenly played games and ended up losing both of them.”

On Texas Tech closing out the game...

“The thing I like about our team was when you have a chance to win it, you’re also in danger of losing it. When we had a chance to win it, we won it. We made the plays that we had to make, got the ball back, and made some free throws. We got the ball and we didn’t wind up trading buckets. It was a hard played game defensively and that’s a trademark of Bob’s (Huggins) teams as long as he’s coached.”

On the absence of K-State’s Bill Walker...

“It doesn’t change us. We are without Esmir Rizvic, and he is our best inside defensive player. So, both teams had players that they certainly would have liked to have had. I think we talked about who we would start in the game tonight. If we were Kansas State, they started exactly who we would have started. Both teams were without a key tonight.”

Senior Guard Jarrius Jackson

On coming into the game...

“We knew they were going to come out ready to play. We knew they like to get up and down the court. They play very physical, so we had to match their intensity.”

On Texas Tech’s defensive play...

“In the first half, I think we were kind of tentative on the defensive end. In the second half, we kicked it up a notch. I have to give credit to them. They were playing very good defense.”

Junior Guard Charlie Burgess

On Texas Tech’s shooting...

“I think we got into one of those shooting slumps, but we just had to keep shooting and running our offense and try to get out of the slump.”
