Kansas State Head Coach Quotes

On the beginning of the game...

“They are a good team and he (Bob Knight) is a great coach. Did they give him 800 of them? I don’t think so. We certainly had our opportunities. We got the tip and had it in transition, but we throw it to them, they steal the ball and throw it to them and steal the ball again, and that’s how we start out the thing.”

On the transition game...

“We give the ball to Dave (Hoskins) to penetrate and dish, and he tries to split the double team and loses it. They go down and shoot a layup and (Clent) Stewart gives it to them at halfcourt and they get another layup. All we talked about was making them score against our set defense. They are good when they get out in transisiton. They’ve got guys that fly. If you look at them, their three perimeter guys have about 80 steals between them up until this point. We thought going in, that maybe we could score a little bit in transitition because they have guys that play so many minutes. But, then we go down and throw it to them. I don’t know if we scored a transition basket.”

On shot selection...

“Cartier (Martin) forced some, but I think that other than Cartier, we had some pretty good shots. I really don’t know what to do about missing the easy shots. We would throw the ball down low to the block and we just missed. If you look at Akeem (Wright), he took some tough shots, and those were the only ones he made. He didn’t make them when he was wide open.”
