Kansas State Head Coach Quotes

Opening Statement...
"I'm really proud of how our team played on both ends of the floor today. We showed that we'd really grown up with respect to knowing how to manage possessions and string together stops and run a purposeful offense. We understood that we were playing a good basketball team and our young people were extremely focused and just played extremely well today and it was a great victory against a great basketball team today."

On the contributions of post players Ashley Sweat and Jalana Childs...
"It was absolutely huge that we were able to establish a post presence today. We knew going into Big 12 play that that was something that most teams probably weren't expecting from us. We felt like we were right on the edge (of establishing a post presence). It's making a little adjustment and growing a little here and there. These two (Sweat and Childs) were just extraordinary with respect to their timing, their decision making and the aggressiveness that they both showed at the right time. Ashley was great with the dribble drive situations one-on-one and established herself at the rim. Jalana had to have a really great basketball IQ today and be really mature with her decisions. There were possessions where people weren't guarding her tight and then when she went in with her back to the basket they were guarding her physical and she just balanced the diversity of looks that she saw extremely well. I'm so proud of her growth and maturity. Both of them, I thought their mental game was right where it needed to be and the physical followed. I thought Ashley handled every possession with great maturity and toughness, as did Jalana. It was just a great part of our success today."

On holding Kansas to such a low score...
"You can't expect to be able to hold teams to that kind of a deficit. We did a great job and they struggled today and that's just the way the game played out. I give all credit to our team really being attentive on each possession to their job and communicating. They played extremely well together today, and I thought rebounded at level that gave us a chance to limit possessions. A lot of our defensive possessions ended with a defensive board and I thought that was a big part of our success today. It was a great performance defensively. It's really not something we went into the game successful. Once KU drew it to even, I expected the rest of the game might go that way, with a shot here and a shot there. We established it wasn't going to be that way."
