Kansas Quotes

Head Coach Bonnie Henrickson

On the pace of the game...

“If you hit that many threes and layups, and when you’re a team trying to improve on defense it sure didn’t look like we were today. If you want to be a good defensive team then you have to be aggressive. We had five deflections in the first half, but we should have had 20. We don’t come out and were not aggressive, we don’t dictate, we don’t turn anybody over. We only forced them to two turnovers in the first half. That is what is going to happen in this league when you give somebody that kind of rhythm. You will start to feel comfortable and good about yourself. We back it up and just have no poise. We played out of control and fast on the offensive end and played in mud on defense.”

On what they learned from the loss...

“What this group has to learn from is we have to learn from (this loss) and grow from it and get better because of it and not let it suck the air out of us like we did against Oklahoma State last year in a heartbreaker. I’ve been nauseous for about two-and-a-half hours, so it’s different, but it’s still a loss. You have to rebound and be able to play in this league and avoid the highs and lows. We have to come in and (practice great) on Monday and Tuesday. We have another rivalry game at home against Missouri on Wednesday. You have to learn from it and let it go.”

On K-State’s defense...

“They switched we had guards being guarded by posts. We side-stepped everybody and didn’t get it inside to anybody. We just don’t have rhythm and poise. We just panicked, we did.”

Freshman Guard Sade Morris

On trying to guard Shalee Lehning...

“She is just a great player. You kind of never know what you are going to get, but I have to stay in front next time and not let her make it so easy. I just tried to use my length more and pressure her more, but I could have done a better job.”

Junior Guard Danielle McCray

On K-State’s defense...

“Their defense was (hard to play against), just like coach Lonnie (Henrickson) said they were trying to get us out of rhythm. I think it was more of ourselves than their defense. We just didn’t have (much) of an offensive presence.”

On what the team does to prepare for Missouri...

“(We have to) come to practice on Monday with a different attitude. We all have to change.”
